Successful clinical trials show the effectiveness of the startup's at-home test kits.

FARGO, ND / ACCESSWIRE / April 26, 2023 / Checkable Medical, a new startup revolutionizing the healthcare industry by bringing fast and accurate at-home test kits, telehealth services, and a line of wellness supplements to the home, announced today that it has completed its clinical trials for the first and only rapid strep throat test for home use.

The goal of the clinical trial was to prove individuals without medical training could decide if the test was right for them by reading the labeling, learning how to collect a throat sample, running the test using our instructions, and interpreting the results. The trial was conducted at 20 trial sites around the country. The objective was to prove a lay user could get the same result as a clinician. It is essential to have a wide range of individuals from different communities participate in clinical trials to reduce biases, promote social justice and health equity, and produce more innovative science.

With the goal in mind to conduct these tests at home, a bonus is alleviating the stress of healthcare workers as well. According to a new analysis, about 334,000 doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinicians departed the field in 2021 as a result of retirement, burnout, and pandemic-related pressures, and that number has only risen in the last year.

"The burden and cost savings to the healthcare system is dramatic. The number of nurses and doctors has decreased by 44%, and acute non-urgent care that can be conducted in the comfort of home is a relief for the consumer and our healthcare providers," said Patty Post, Checkable Medical's CEO, and Founder.

Millions of Americans rely on over-the-counter medicines as an accessible and effective solution for commonly occurring conditions. If the Checkable at-home strep test is cleared by the FDA, it will be a massive move in the right direction to further empower consumers with affordable, convenient, and attainable self-care diagnostics.

"The Checkable at-home strep platform, complete with telemedicine on our mobile app, is a paradigm shift for millions of parents and their employers. It's the difference between missing a half day of work and being a couple of minutes late. With the use of telemedicine, they can get the Rx and head to their neighborhood to pick up the Rx, throat lozenges, and a gallon of milk," added Patty.

The Checkable team is working on the submission and will format and submit the data to the FDA in June 2023. Ideally, the product will be available for strep season 2024.
