NORTHAMPTON, MA / ACCESSWIRE / November 8, 2022 / Women in Trucking (WIT) announced Marathon Petroleum as one of the top companies for women to work for in transportation. The award is given to companies with a corporate culture that fosters gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible hours, professional development opportunities and career advancement opportunities.

"As a female in a male-dominated field, you have to overcome many obstacles," said Katie Zalat, Marathon Petroleum Transport & Rail (T&R) Operations Director - West. "Advocating for women is something that brings me joy and guides my actions. I'm thankful to work for a company that fosters inclusion and happy we are being recognized as a top company for women to work."

Marathon's T&R organization formed partnerships with WIT and the Women in Trucking Foundation. WIT's broader mission is to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote accomplishments and minimize obstacles. The non-profit organization brings together companies from a range of industries that have the common goal of diversity and inclusion.

"This partnership with Women in Trucking is a great opportunity to help us with some of those actions to improve - in recruiting women, in benchmarking and in learning, because we have more room to grow," said Zalat. "I am excited for what's to come and to see more faces like me in T&R as a result of this partnership - behind the wheel of a transport, behind a wrench in the maintenance garage, or behind a desk working to support our fleets. The sky is the limit!"

Beyond the support of WIT, T&R drivers at Marathon have an extensive benefits package. It includes eight weeks of fully paid maternity leave, four weeks of fully paid paternity leave, adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement, four-day work weeks, a 401k employer match, a company pension plan and the opportunity to be home every night.

The top companies will be recognized at the upcoming WIT Accelerate! Conference & Expo Nov. 13-16 in Dallas, Texas.
