"San Diego’s legal community is as committed to the spirit and philosophy of the law as Harper Lee’s enduring hero, attorney Atticus Finch (of the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”),” reads the Best of the Bar 2014 introduction. “Throughout the years the San Diego Business Journal has honored and showcased our local firms and individuals and has championed those who have made a significant impact.”
“We hope this section will showcase the area’s top attorneys and will be used as a resource for anyone needing legal services," the introduction later reads.
Smaha nationally practices Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and Asset Preservation Strategies and well as an extensive practice represented businesses in financial transactions and litigation. His extensive background includes a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Redlands, and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego. He was a published member of the University of San Diego Law Review and was admitted to the California Bar in 1980. “When dealing with a potential business failure or judgment, it is always advisable to see advice long before the actual event happens,” Smaha said, in his Best of the Bar 2014 profile. “A year or longer is best. By doing so, you or your business will be in the best shape to weather the storm and stay in business without interruption. Taking action too late often results in unfavorable results and a fire drill.”
