The Tour will visit 48 towns and cities across Canada, hosting 2-hour community-based educational events highlighting the impact of the psychological stressors of acute, cumulative, post-traumatic stress and vicarious trauma and how these stressors impact front-line responders.
According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, PTSD is caused by a psychologically traumatic event involving actual or threatened death or serious injury to oneself or others. In some cases, seeing another person harmed or killed, or learning that a close friend or family member is in serious danger has caused the development of PTSD symptoms.
PTSD can cause a person to experience flashbacks, anxiety, depression or insomnia.
Aaron Waxman and Associates hopes that 2014 Heroes are Human Tour opens the conversation about the seriousness of post-traumatic stress disorder and fosters a sense of understanding with respect to the the impact of PTSD on Canada's military, police officers, emergency personnel and all front-line responders.
