We recently had a chance to catch up with Cuba Gooding, Jr at the LA premiere of ‘The Firing Squad' at Warner Bros last month and later in Miami. Here are questions we asked him:
LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / May 24, 2024 / The highly-awaited movie ‘The Firing Squad' - coming to theaters nationwide starting August 2, 2024 - features Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding, Jr.
The film is based on the true story of three Christian prisoners who face execution in a third world prison and win the the entire prison camp to Christ.
We had a chance to catch up with Cuba Gooding, Jr at the LA premiere of ‘The Firing Squad' at Warner Bros last month and later in Miami. Here are questions we asked him:
QUESTION: We just saw the incredible audience reaction to ‘The Firing Squad' and the applause was pretty deafening. How do you feel?
Cuba Gooding, Jr: I think America needs to come back to God. These men faced execution but still had joy in Christ.
QUESTION: When did you find Christ?
Cuba Gooding, Jr.: I accepted Christ in 1985, but recommitted my life back to Him this year.
QUESTION: Your character was a former drug dealer who found Christ in the prison. Is anyone beyond redemption?
Cuba Gooding, Jr: Absolutely not. You can see that with the character I play. He was a hard-bitten man but in the end finds the truth.
QUESTION: What brought you greater joy - winning the Oscar for ‘Jerry Maguire' or finding Christ.
Cuba Gooding, Jr: Of course God comes first. I love God and I love Jesus.
QUESTION: When they're leading you out to be executed, you sing an incredible rendition of ‘Amazing Grace' that has the audience in tears. When did you learn to sing like that?
Cuba Gooding, Jr.: I had to learn to sing on Broadway when I played in ‘Chicago' and played Billy Flynn.
QUESTION: So many people are talking about ‘The Firing Squad'. Is this one of your best roles ever?
Cuba Gooding, Jr: Yes absolutely. I cried when I read the script and so glad to work with Tim Chey again. We knocked it out of the ballpark with this movie.
‘The Firing Squad' hits theaters nationwide on August 2, 2024. The film is trying to win one million souls to Christ through the movie.
