Black Heritage Society of Washington State, Washington State Jewish Historical Society & Wing Luke Museum Co-Create Powerful Exhibit

SEATTLE, WA / ACCESSWIRE / May 7, 2024 / The Black Heritage Society of Washington State, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society, and the Wing Luke Museum jointly announce a thought-provoking exhibit, Confronting Hate Together, opening May 22, 2024, at the Wing Luke Museum. Confronting Hate Together is produced in partnership as a unified response and community call to action against the bias and bigotry that sow seeds of division and hate across communities.

Though the local exhibit is inspired by the 2022 Confronting Hate 1937-1952 exhibit curated by the New-York Historical Society, Confronting Hate Together portrays a searing contemporary portrayal of racism, antisemitism, hate and bigotry through a local lens. Emphasis will be on the distinct stories, perspective and history of this region - driven by a singular objective to educate communities and empower them to combat the rising tide of hate and racial violence in our communities today.

In addition to the exhibit, the three organizations are launching a four-part "Confronting Hate Together" podcast series. In development are public programs, community pop-up installations, and a digital version of the Confronting Hate Together exhibit.

"Confronting Hate Together is such an ambitious and timely project," the group said in a joint statement. "Given increased incidences of antisemitism, worsening racism in the African American community and growing anti-Asian hate, alongside all sentiments of hate impacting so many communities, this initiative was inspired by our organizations' mutual commitment to unity, solidarity and action. While global events are at the forefront of many of our minds, our ability to affect change starts locally. Our work is on unification. For us, it is not enough to shine a light on hate. We must also promote conversations about hate, antisemitism, bigotry, and racism in supportive settings while offering visitors the tools to act on their learning."
