SWITZERLAND, Zug / ACCESSWIRE / April 12, 2023 / AirGap, a Swiss security-centric self-custody crypto wallet, today announces integration with Internet Computer, the world's most powerful general-purpose blockchain, and Web3 platform, developed by the DFINITY Foundation.
AirGap will feature support for ICP, the Internet Computer's native token, and ckBTC, a Bitcoin "twin" token that is 1:1 backed by BTC. Developed to increase liquidity, ckBTC allows for inexpensive and fast Bitcoin transactions on the Internet Computer blockchain. Moreover, unlike "wrapped" tokens, ckBTC doesn't require intermediaries or risky cross-chain bridges.
Based on a two device-approach, the app comprises AirGap Vault and AirGap Wallet. AirGap Vault can be installed on any device, such as a smartphone, transforming it into a cold storage solution where users' digital assets are completely safe and disconnected from the Internet - eliminating online attack vectors. Known as "air-gapping," this method increases security and allows users to remain in complete control of their funds.
AirGap Wallet, the Vault's default companion app, is a watch-only wallet that can be installed on users' everyday smartphones. It shows the balance, initiates and broadcasts transactions, and does not expose user assets or data.
Transactions can be signed seamlessly and wirelessly via verifiable QR-Codes. Not only does this simplify the signing process, it also keeps the solution 100% air-gapped.
The AirGap Vault is also compatible with other companion apps such as MetaMask, Rabby Wallet, Sparrow Wallet, Blue Wallet and Spectre Wallet.
Boasting support for over 200 cryptocurrencies, AirGap users can directly stake their Tezos, Cosmos, Polkadot, and Kusama tokens and support for ICP staking is also under development. Furthermore, does AirGap allow direct in-app swaps without sending their funds to exchanges.
