Over 10 Million Tons of Coal Ash Thermally Processed and Recycled

LEXINGTON, SC / ACCESSWIRE / March 21, 2023 / The SEFA Group is pleased to announce major milestones in the thermal beneficiation of coal ash, converting the material for encapsulated uses as additives which improve concrete and other industrial products. The company has sold over 10 million tons of thermally beneficiated coal ash since 1999, and has substantially increased volumes sold in the last 12 months, surpassing 1 million beneficiated tons over that period.

SEFA has operated and maintained facilities using a variety of thermal beneficiation technologies to remove carbon and harmful organics from coal ash. SEFA was the first company in the world to process harvested ash in commercial quantities with its proprietary process, STAR Technology, which has no solid waste stream.

Bill Fedorka, VP of CCP Services at SEFA, said, "I'm proud of our team as we continue to make advancements in beneficiation technologies that address a variety of utility and industry needs."

At multiple facilities operated by SEFA, coal ash is excavated from ponds and processed into environmentally sustainable material. STAR Ash is then recycled into concrete products used in the construction of roads, bridges, dams, and buildings, improving their strength and durability. STAR Ash was recently voted one of the Top 16 Coolest Things Made in South Carolina.

"We remain focused on improving the environment and providing solutions to remove and recycle coal ash," said Jim Clayton, COO. "With our STAR thermal beneficiation process, we remove coal ash from the environment and are able to give concrete customers a consistent supply of quality fly ash."
