The company which specializes in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and vehicle control systems for off-road electric vehicles was set up with the goal of making off-road adventure more sustainable and accessible. Said Sam Poirier, CEO of Potential Motors, "Our goal is to license and sell our technology to other car companies making off-road specialty vehicles. We did not design the vehicle with the aim of making a name for ourselves as a vehicle manufacturer. We are making vehicles like Adventure 1 to help realize the immense potential of the offroad market. What we offer is an integrated turnkey solution to make offroading more attractive."

Potential Motors spotted the opportunity in the offroad market and is now leveraging this to emerge as the first and only manufacturer of ADAS systems for off-road vehicles. The global market for off-road vehicles crossed 20 billion dollars in 2022 and is poised to grow at a CAGR of 8% from 2023 to 2032. This is mainly driven by the development of autonomous vehicles, which make driving on conventional roads safe but uninteresting. The future of driving for pleasure and individual ownership of vehicles lies in off-road motoring. It is this sector that Potential Motors caters to with its proprietary technology and innovative approach to design.

It may be surprising that an advanced automotive technology firm is based in Canada, but it allows the company to draw from the wide pool of talent thanks to its high living standards and multicultural environment. Bill Lamey, CTO, is a prime example of this. A 25 year vet in software development and AI, he is one of the four people in the senior leadership team and oversaw the Adventure 1 concept from the beginning to the end. Bill was given the mandate of integrating the software the company had developed into a vehicle that a consumer would like and buy. When he joined the company three years ago, the design of the car was still at the principle layout stage, but he was so impressed by what they had already achieved on the technical front that he took up the challenge of joining Potential Motors after a career with large corporations. With a team of just 21 people and a few the company recruited later on from countries like Brazil, Italy, and Sweden they managed to achieve what seemed to be an impossible feat then while meeting the highest standards of quality and safety.

Michael Uhlarik, vice president of Automotive brings a background in industrial and mobility design and experience of having worked at reputed companies like Piaggio and Bombardier contributed significantly to this achievement. Together with the leadership, he identified clearly what the company was best at - design and software and contracted out the other aspects to a reputable OEM manufacturer in Italy for production of the Adventure 1. Potential Motors developed and refined the design and gave them detailed specifications, but they dealt with the fabrication, engineering, stress testing and other details. In just seven months the vehicle was ready and received an enthusiastic response when it was displayed at the Overland Expo in October 2022, with the vehicle being pre-sold to customers at the show.

Less than 200 Adventure 1 vehicles will be manufactured but Potential Motors is hoping that this will be enough to create a significant impact on the off-roading scene.

Concluded Sam Poirier, CEO, "Our vehicle is really a bespoke ORV for off-road enthusiasts and will hopefully be a forerunner of many such vehicles in the future.
