Vizcom: The Visual Design Company that is Seeking to Expedite the Process of having an Idea and Bringing it to Life

Thursday, 26 January 2023 12:49 PM

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA / ACCESSWIRE / January 26, 2023 / The pace at which technology has developed in recent years has been truly exponential. Google was founded only in 1998, but today we cannot imagine a life without it or Facebook or YouTube or Instagram. With Vizcom, Jordan Taylor, who is the co-founder and CEO of the company, is seeking to leverage generative AI to expedite the process of converting 2D designs into 3D objects. Poised to be a gamechanger in the visual design industry, Jordan has already raised funds in a pre-seed and initial seed round to the tune of $5 million from venture capitalists. Like him, they are hoping to unlock the potential the technology offers to shorten the paper to product cycle in the development of real life objects like cars and footwear.

Geared towards designers engaged in the design and development of physical products like industrial designers, car designers, and footwear specialists, this set of AI tools will accelerate that process which involves conceiving 2D drawings which need to be converted into 3D models and then are turned into physical products.

Growing up in Michigan, which is the heart of the automotive manufacturing industry in the United States, Jordan had a strong entrepreneurial streak and an interest in car design from a young age. In his freshman year of high school, he got his parents to buy him a screen printer so that he could customize and design his own clothing brand for sale through Tumblr. He used the funds from this enterprise to fund his college studies in automotive design. After completing college, he moved out to California to work for Honda as a car designer, thus marrying his two interests - cars and design. Within this span of time he had taught himself how to code through video games. From Honda, he moved on to a role with Nvidia as an industrial designer in Silicon Valley. His job involved drawing product designs and converting them into commercially viable 3D models. He had to incorporate a lot of the latest advancements in technology in the development of actual applications and products for people to use. In his own time, he worked on using popular AI tools to see how he could significantly reduce the time needed for the development process.

Jordan created a community of people interested in car design on Instagram called the Designers Pen. Currently, the community has around 70,000 followers and this community gave him the support he needed to understand that his ideas had commercial scope. He decided to take the plunge and left Nvidia to set up Vizcom along with his close friend Kaelan Richards, who is the co-founder and CTO of the company. After holding a pre-seed round to test the waters, Vizcom has recently raised $5 million in an initial seed round from Unusual, based in San Francisco, for further product development, recruitment of engineers and the development of a broad based marketing strategy.

Said Jordan Taylor, co-founder and CEO of Vizcom, "Right now, we are still in the development stage, in the realm of 2D. The idea is for designers to use generative AI to convert their 2D images and drawings into ‘obj' files in 3D file formats, thus shortening a tedious process that is now done by hand. We are hoping to achieve this by the middle of this year. With our technology, they can import their obj file and run their design in programs such as blender. Being a designer myself, I consider design to be a key element of product success. I subscribe to the concept that design has to lead everything else. Our aim is to make Vizcom one of the best collaborative, based professional generative, AI tools for professional artists and designers so that they can further refine and elevate their design skills. It is this emphasis on design that differentiates us from other companies in this space. We are also hoping to partner with at least 5 to 10 different enterprise entities that are going to be using our software to help accelerate their team's workflows. Another aspect that Vizcom pays a lot of attention to is data security with respect to the drawings and designs shared by the companies that it works with. This gives Vizcom leeway to leverage historical data obtained from these companies to further refine the Vizcom tools. Our end goal is to have a meaningful impact in making life easier for professional artists, designers and companies such as Nike, Adidas and Toyota."
