Northwest Federal Credit Union: Providing Value to Members, Community, and Employees

Wednesday, 18 January 2023 12:20 PM

HERNDON, VA / ACCESSWIRE / January 18, 2023 / Finances are the lifeblood of every economy, and institutions like credit unions play a key role in helping people manage their finances successfully. Northwest Federal Credit Union is a true cooperative, pooling deposits from membership to be able to provide loans to those in need. This makes it possible for Northwest Federal to help its members achieve their dreams: from buying a new car, a home, starting a business, or obtaining a college degree.

Over the past 75 years, the Northwest Federal Credit Union has established a solid reputation of providing its members with a wide range of financial services, flexible terms for loans, and a strong commitment to community outreach. Their WHY statement, "together we serve and inspire to transform lives", is a tribute to their vision to help as many people as possible achieve their financial goals.

As a non-profit institution, the focus has always been on guiding its members on their respective financial journeys. Providing competitive interest rates for deposits and more flexible loans are just the start. Northwest also regularly hosts educational webinars for its members and maintains a strong commitment to community outreach, helping those in need with funding and scholarship awards. In fact, Northwest gives every employee 24 hours of paid volunteer hours so they can work with their charity of choice.

Such initiatives have been introduced by Jeff Bentley, Northwest Federal President/CEO. He started his career with Northwest Federal Credit Union in 2014 as the Senior Vice President of Lending. Leveraging his 30-plus years of experience in consumer and commercial lending, accounting, sales and third party management, Mr. Bentley launched several innovative measures. This included an indirect lending division and a community outreach program that helped the credit union achieve significant strategic growth and expand its footprint in the community. He took over as the CEO/President of Northwest Federal in 2017.

From the beginning, Mr. Bentley's focus has been providing a personal touch to transactions and community involvement. He believes in the need for Northwest to inspire and transform the lives of their members with solid financial guidance and service. As a not-for-profit organization, Northwest has disbursed many flexible term loans that have made it possible for members to achieve their dreams. The loans have a far-reaching impact that has truly changed lives.

Said Jeff Bentley, "I am fortunate to be in a position where I can make decisions that can have a significant impact on people's lives. We have regularly disbursed loans that have helped our members save their business or save their home. I also believe strongly in an employee-first approach. When we pay attention to creating equity in the workplace and prioritize the mental health of our employees, they feel supported by management. We provide them with a clear path to advancement and this gives them, I believe, a greater level of job satisfaction. Employees working at Northwest Federal enjoy the feeling that they are making a difference and helping people. I want to make sure our employees are inspired to transform their lives so they understand how powerful it is to help someone else transform theirs."

Where larger financial institutions hesitate, Northwest steps in. Countless stories of customers who received help from Northwest after being turned down by big banks attest to the effectiveness of the credit union's approach and its level of community support. Northwest supported the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a government-backed loan that helped businesses keep their workforce employed during the COVID-19 crisis. Northwest Federal took the lead, helping process millions in loan dollars, saving small businesses, workers, and communities across the nation who could not work due to COVID restrictions.

Unlike profit-oriented banks that have a uniform loan policy, Northwest caters to members based on their individual needs. Northwest provides its members with guidance on their financial journey throughout their lives - whether it is a new family looking for a starter home, parents with college-bound children, or older members who want to be comfortable in retirement - the 270,000-plus members all receive individual attention. And that Bentley says, is the Northwest advantage.
