What Happened and What Information Was Involved:

American Express is a multinational corporation specializing in payment card services.

On November 18, 2022, American Express began notifying consumers that on July 26, 2022, the company was notified by a third-party service provider that it had been the victim of a cyber attack. On November 3, 2022, American Express confirmed that some account holder information was impacted.

According to information provided to the Office of the Maine Attorney General, the information that was compromised includes:

  • Name or other personal identifier in combination with:
    • Driver's License Number, or
    • Non-Driver Identification Card Number
