Certificate authority and email gateway provider celebrate a decade of promoting email security with PKI-backed S/MIME

BRUSSELS and PADERBORN, GERMANY / ACCESSWIRE / October 19, 2022 / GMO GlobalSign (https://www.globalsign.com/en) the global Certificate Authority (CA) and leading provider of security, identity and digital signature solutions for IoT, today announced it has been successfully working with email gateway provider Net at Work for a decade. Our organizations have collaborated with the intention of improving email security through Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME)-based encryption, a well-established protocol for sending digitally signed and encrypted messages based on asymmetric cryptography. Both companies will be discussing the collaboration at it-sa Expo and Congress 2022 in Nuremberg, Germany October 25-27.

Net at Work began working with GlobalSign in 2012. At the time, GlobalSign's API was integrated with NoSpamProxy's encryption module. In the ensuing years, GlobalSign has expanded its work with NoSpamProxy with the goal of enabling European companies to overcome common challenges with implementing email encryption. This is especially true with the massive increase in ransomware attacks in the last several years with the main attack vector being phishing-based emails.

The advantage of the GlobalSign and Net at Work collaboration is the automation of GlobalSign's Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)-based technology. The gateway can process the client's entire email traffic based on rulesets defined by the client. The final email will be signed and/or encrypted in the last step. This workflow ensures that no signature will be broken after an email is sent. Incoming emails are decrypted first and can be scanned for malicious attachments before they arrive in the employee's inbox, making it impossible to use encryption as a Trojan Horse. Now, with Net at Work's latest product version -NoSpamProxy V14 - which is available as an on-prem application, managed service offered from partners, or SaaS (software as a service) hosted by Net at Work, the security of emails will be even greater.

"We highly value the partnership with GlobalSign. Together we followed the vision of a wide adaption of encryption technology to better protect business communications. We both continued to invest in what was considered a niche market when we started our partnership. Now it is a fast-growing market based on widely accepted encryption technology and standards like S/MIME." said Stefan Cink, Business Unit Manager NoSpamProxy at Net at Work.

"The partnership with Net at Work has been an excellent example of how two companies in the email security market servicing global vendors can sync their mutual technologies to benefit and improve a customer's ease of use," said Andreas Brix, Program Manager, GlobalSign. "This brings about the full power of PKI-based encryption with a minimal time investment while dramatically increasing the security of a company's email system."

Brix adds, "We are well aware that S/MIME has long been viewed as complicated to implement. However, as GlobalSign's solutions have matured, and with partners such as Net at Work, we are now able to offer an email security solution that is much easier to implement than ever before."

GlobalSign's it-sa stand will be located in Hall 6, Booth 6-200 and the Net at Work stand will be in Hall 7, Booth 7-130. At the show, Brix will be speaking about how XaaS providers can benefit from working with PKI-based solutions.
