OCEEF Selects Polygon to Help Deliver Its Next-Gen Ocean Conservation Initiative

Friday, 23 September 2022 12:15 PM

OCEEF will work with Polygon to offer innovative, interactive experiences via a governance platform where participants can assist in key decisions

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / September 23, 2022 / The Ocean Conservation Exploration and Education Foundation, or OCEEF, has teamed up with Polygon, an Ethereum scaling platform onboarding millions to web3. As part of the collaboration, the foundation will leverage Polygon technology to bring people worldwide closer to these deep-sea missions in new, more engaging ways.

With Polygon, The OCEEF plans to evolve Ocean education into a more elaborate and interactive experience. To bring this vision to life, OCEEF will democratize access to its state-of-the-art research vessel, the RV Odyssey, through Web3 technologies - delivering engaging experiences in the Metaverse and providing real-time access to all of the ship's areas and data, with the assistance of its partner organization, dSphere.io

This research vessel has already been utilized in far-reaching media, such as BBC's Blue Planet II, and has even played host to the world-famous David Attenborough. On board the Odyssey is not only the latest cutting-edge technology orchestrated through its state-of-the-art mission control center, but the only 3-person immersive submersible vehicle in the world capable of descending to 7,500ft. Using this sub, between December 2022 and February 2023, OCEEF will perform the deepest dives ever attempted in Antarctica, followed by the Galapagos, the Mediterranean, and the Arctic.

Odyssey's submersible delivers stereoscopic video and is equipped with titanium robotic manipulators for interaction with the environment. The team plans to leverage these tools to provide unique Web3 experiences, offering users a new way to engage with these missions and participate in their findings.

Taking user engagement to the next level, OCEEF, via Polygon, will deliver a fully distributed governance platform, where participants can assist in decisions, including voting on what missions to engage in, which researchers and student-scientists to invite on-board, deciding what future locations will be explored, and helping fund the project by purchasing support NFTs.

OCEEF plans to grant access to these missions, the Odyssey and its facilities both on-site as well as remotely via virtual experiences. Ultimately, this new experiential and experimental approach to engaging the population in climate consciousness will expose more of the public than ever to the latest information and provide them specific ways to change their behavior so they can become part of the solution.

This announcement comes alongside Climate Week NYC, which is partnering with The Nest Summit Campus to provide an event centered around education and action.

Alex Moukas, Founder of the OCEEF, said, "We see web3 as a critical accelerator in engaging and educating people about the importance of the Ocean. Using our Polygon partnership and its carbon-neutral tech as a launchpad, we will be using technology to democratize access to the vessel through multiple web3 platforms as well as provide participants with the ability to help decide the vessel's future itinerary and research."

In June, Polygon attained carbon-neutral status and has pledged to go carbon-negative by the end of 2022.

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, said, "Our company is committed to revolutionizing how people can engage and transact over the internet. Being able to facilitate a global endeavor such as the one that OCEEF is undertaking is very humbling. I know that our technology is up to the task of bringing these types of immersive, educational and change-making experiences to people all over the globe."
