Community service is one of Maxim Gorin's guiding principles. As a co-founder and business development leader for LifeLine Ambulance services, Gorin stands by his core values of responding to the needs of others. While his company has achieved great success through the years, as an immigrant, Gorin understands the other side of the coin very well- students are in deep financial need to pursue their academic goals.

The scholarship winner, Shiv Bhakta, thoroughly expressed his vision as a student upon answering the scholarship essay prompt: "Healthcare in America is a frequently debated topic. Do you believe an individual's ability to obtain higher education can impact their long-term quality of health? Why or why not?"

Bhakta answered with the following, "Being able to pursue a higher education is a privilege for so many and can be seen as the ultimate goal for a student to have a successful life. But ultimately, in the long term, with the experiences of school in the rearview mirror and someone working in their respective career, their cumulative experiences and knowledge obtained can serve to be a platform for them to improve and maintain health long-term for the rest of their lives."
