The Auto Prof and Environmental Motorworks Offer Canada's First Hands-on Training Facility For EV and Hybrid

Tuesday, 24 May 2022 07:00 AM

BARRIE, ON / ACCESSWIRE / May 24, 2022 / The Government of Canada has targeted 2035 for all new light-duty cars and passenger trucks to emit zero emissions. Thus, Canadian organizations are looking at transitioning their fleets and equipment to EV or hybrid power. The obvious question then presents itself; "Who is going to maintain and service these assets?"

The Auto Prof and Environmental Motorworks (EMW)are proud to be Canada's first hands-on training facility for EV and hybrid vehicles. They are well-positioned to help meet the growing demand for electric/hybrid vehicles, and the need for thoroughly trained technicians to service them.

"There is a significant need in the Automotive Aftermarket for training. Our organization provides higher-end, advanced, Hands-On training. Hands-On training is the model most technicians want. It is expensive to run due to the investments required in courses and instructor. This makes "real" hands-on training difficult or impossible to find in many parts of Canada, the US, and abroad," said Mike Bailey, Chief Technical Officer at Environmental Motorworks.

Mr. Bailey is well known in the automotive industry as The Auto Prof and has been offering advanced training throughout Canada since 1991 and is experienced in delivering hands-on classes. He served alongside Rob Campbell and David Mayers as Board members who started EMW as a platform to support the delivery of relevant, effective training, and products related to the automotive and heavy equipment segments, with a focus on innovative technologies. The Company's response, to focus on EV and Hybrid powered vehicles, is a natural progression considering all involved. To further entrench their "relevant training" mentality, the companies also develop and deliver class topics encompassing modern electrically operated systems, the latest internal combustion technology, and the latest safety systems (ADAS) which will ultimately lead to autonomous vehicles.

The Auto Prof, and EMW use their fleet of vehicles, and advanced diagnostic equipment "in their students' hands", to ensure technicians come away from class with the theory required, and the practical experience to apply what they have learned in the classroom.

The very nature of their training model demands attention to safety. Student safety is paramount, is taught in the classroom and always practiced and reinforced in the lab. From battery disassembly to high pressure hydraulic components, safety is taught and reinforced when it applies to the day's topic.

An example of the programs available include:

  • 7-Day HEV/PHEV/EV Technician Master Class
  • 7-Week HEV/PHEV/EV Technician Master Class
  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
  • Air Conditioning - Basics
  • Air Conditioning - Advanced W/Diagnosis
  • Communications Networks
  • J-2534 Programming (Domestic/Import classes available)
  • Lab Scope - Basics (for the new scope user)
  • Lab Scope - Advanced (for those familiar with scope operation)
  • Pressure Transducer Lab Scope Diagnostics (the latest advancement)

Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of electric and hybrid vehicles while exposed to different makes and models. This includes major components, functions, diagnostics, repair, general service and preventive maintenance.

"The hands-on component is crucial. We have our own facilities and we have partnered with a community college in Ontario. While developing material in-house, we are also connected within this industry, which provided a multitude of available resources we regularly consult. If a company has a fleet of EVs or hybrids, we're well-positioned to provide customized training, enabling them to maintain and repair these vehicles and equipment in their own facility safely and efficiently." said Campbell, Chief Commercial Officer at Environmental Motorworks.
