TORONTO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / May 10, 2022 / More than 2,000 bookkeepers across Canada will benefit from a consolidation of two professional certification organizations, say representatives of both organizations.

The Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CIB) consolidated under the name of the Certified Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (CPB Canada) in April.

Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping members will retain their designation

"From a CPB Canada perspective, I'm over the moon, as CEO, to welcome a new group of professionals into our community, to connect them with their peers and to strengthen our collective voice moving forward," says Rick Johal, CEO of CPB Canada.

"Let's come together. Let's unify. Let's present a more cohesive association of professionals to support Canada's small and medium-sized businesses," Johal says.

Former CIB members will retain their professional certification - Certified Bookkeeper (CB) - which will be treated as equivalent to the Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) certification used by CPB Canada members. Only the CPB certification will be offered from now on.

Walter Krystia, former president of CIB, says CIB proposed the consolidation so their members would have access to the same services and educational opportunities as CPB Canada members, including a member savings program, webinars, regional meetings and an annual conference.

"Our members will finally have a home where they can network with other members and take advantage of all the services provided by CPB Canada," Krystia says.

CIB members voted to approve the deal, which required CPB Canada to pay $1 for the assets of CIB, including their website, domain, member list and trademark. The members then voted to dissolve their organization. The boards of CIB and CPB Canada approved the deal.

Rod Cox, CPB Canada board chair, says the consolidation "is a good move for both organizations. Their members will benefit quite a bit. We will, too. We will become a stronger community of certified professional bookkeepers across Canada."

Johal adds that the former CIB members will have an opportunity to meet many of their new CPB Canada colleagues at IGNITE 2022, CPB Canada's annual conference, being held in Calgary in September.
