The founder of the New Jersey-based flat-fee real estate broker would like to highlight his role in assembling a comprehensive report comparing buyer agent commissions across 21 cities in the eastern half of the United States.

HACKENSACK, NJ / ACCESSWIRE / May 2, 2022 / When senior fellow of the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) Stephen Brobeck was chosen to assemble an official report comparing real estate buyer agent commissions across 21 large cities in the eastern US, he knew he had to put together an objective and well-informed team. As such, one of his first hires was Derek Eisenberg, a Realtor® and broker at Continental Real Estate Group, who was given the assignment to research and send Brobeck recent MLS-sold residential listings in those 21 cities. The study was conducted throughout the late summer and early autumn of last year, and published in November 2021.

A few weeks later, a prominent feature article was written about the study by journalist Andre Brambila on behalf of the Inman Real Estate News. Early in the piece, she outlines the scope of the report. "CFA studied 500 consecutive sales of single-family, condo or co-op sales in each city starting from the date it received the MLS data," she writes, before going on to reveal its conclusion that "industry rules-particularly the sharing of commissions between listing brokers and buyer brokers in which home-sellers pay the commissions of both the listing agent and the buyer agent-strongly support rate uniformity across the country." Brambila proceeds to state the study's main recommendation, writing, "CFA pushes for the uncoupling of commissions to spur price competition and potentially save consumers thousands of dollars per home sale, or tens of billions of dollars annually combined." The author then mentions that the CFA report stressed that in a price-competitive market, there ought to be a lot more variation in commission rates because agent costs and the quality of agent services vary greatly.

For his part, founder of Continental Real Estate Group Derek Eisenberg was delighted to contribute his talents to the project, having long been an advocate for consumer rights and real estate industry reform.

"I have always been a pro-consumer broker and am not shy about trying to bring down the price of selling a home," Eisenberg is quoted as saying in the article.
