"Caregiving requires compassion, patience, and dedication. It is not an easy job," says Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. "The nominees for the 2022 Caregiver of the Year award demonstrate their extraordinary commitment to their clients by helping them maintain their independence as long as possible."

Here is the list of semi-finalists for the 2022 Visiting Angels Caregiver of the Year award.

Jackie Bulger - She is a selfless, compassionate caregiver who is thoughtful and intuitive to the needs of her clients in Gresham, Oregon. One of Jackie's clients' daughters said that her "mom is always happy to have (Jackie) there. For someone who started out being uncertain about having someone come in, this is a huge blessing to see." Another daughter of a client was so impressed with the care Jackie provided her mom, that when the daughter herself had surgery, she requested Jackie as her caregiver.

Liana Davila-Beaman - In the nine years she has worked for Visiting Angels in Layton, Utah, Liana has always treated her clients with respect and empathy. She is also known to go above and beyond the scope of her duties. When one client lost a substantial amount of weight, Liana took a sewing machine to the house and altered his clothes. She is regarded as a mentor to other caregivers.

Jose Dela Torre Gonzalez - Kindness and joy exudes from Jose. He has the ability to connect with his clients in Kennewick, Washington, unlike any other caregiver. Jose brings peace of mind to all family members, and they feel confident their loved one is in good hands. He is proud to wear the Visiting Angels uniform and finds any opportunity to promote the essential work caregivers provide.

Socorro Emerson -From the day she was hired two years ago, Socorro has had an amazing dedication to her clients in Carson City, Nevada. She delivers on Visiting Angels' mission of keeping people safe, happy, and healthy in their own homes. Socorro is truly a compassionate person whose smile always lights up the room. She is an extraordinarily talented care specialist with a great sense of humor, and her clients all adore her.

Sharon Gorham - Considered the brightest "Angel" serving clients in Aiea, Hawaii, Sharon has an extraordinary commitment to her clients, co-workers, the organization, and community. Her conviction to selflessly serve our great country as a Marine is similar to the service she provides to her clients. Once, after working two weeks straight, she volunteered to work on her only day off so a client would not be alone. It is just one small example from the never-ending list of ways Sharon puts others before herself.

Martha Jackson - Caregiving is a calling, not a job, for Martha - who is considered an angel on earth by her clients in Cramerton, North Carolina. Clients and their families rave about her. The son of one client marvels at the way Martha was able to get his mother to exercise, something no one else was able to accomplish. Another client credits Martha for making her feel comfortable living in her home after her husband died. Martha's boss says she considers Martha the model caregiver.

Jessica Manderson - A "blessing." That is how Jessica's clients, their families, and fellow caregivers in Kitsap County, Washington describe her. Jessica has a rare ability to just be present and show compassion and kindness in all that she does. She is not just a caregiver, she is an advocate for her clients when needed. She always makes sure her clients look their best every day, and she never forgets to share special celebrations with them. Jessica loves her job and her clients - and it shows in everything she does.

Paula Perez - This caring, compassionate caregiver improves the quality of life of her clients in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Paula constantly seeks out opportunities to educate herself on the best way to meet the unique needs of her clients-especially those with dementia and the complications that come with the memory-robbing disease. She shares her experiences as a caregiver with anyone she meets, which has yielded interest in our services from prospective clients who want a caregiver like Paula in their lives.

Lynn Skidmore - Being an in-home caregiver in Cameron Park, California, is part of the fabric of Lynn's life. A hero of hope, she encourages and motivates her clients every day. Lynn is known for winning over the most hesitant clients, holding the hand of a client in the last moments of life, and risking her own safety to ensure the safety of the people in her care. Lynn is known to be appreciative of seniors and their history. For example, she brought much joy and satisfaction to a 97-year-old client who taught her how to play chess. His family says it was so meaningful to him to know he has something to offer another person.

Charles Tennant - As a veteran, service is very important to Charles. What he learned in the military has carried over into his career as a caregiver in Olympia, Washington. He has a special connection with veteran clients and can get them to open up in ways that other caregivers cannot. Charles had a client who was a retired four-star general with severe dementia. He would adapt to his client's reality, lining up for military inspection and saluting his client to help diffuse certain behaviors associated with dementia. Charles constantly says what an honor it is to be able to care for others.

Gwenn Whitman -Families in Toledo, Ohio, often call Gwenn their angel because they truly feel the care that their loved ones received from Gwenn is that special. She is one of those special caregivers who is with her clients for the long term and has helped many of them move on in their final moments. Gwenn works diligently to keep clients safe at home for as long as possible. She cares for them and their home like they are her family, and has the compassion for them that everyone would want for their parents.

The semi-finalists continue onto the third phase of the selection process. In the meantime, they will be featured on the company's social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

The Caregiver of the Year winner will be announced July 5. The grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 prize. Two finalists will each receive $2,500.
