Despite Past Issues, Morrison University is Ready to Move Forward in California

Monday, 21 March 2022 11:00 AM

Morrison University's fresh start in California ensures its ability to fully operate and creates a pathway for growth.

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 21, 2022 / Morrison University is a university that is focused on offering business degree programs for their sponsoring organization's members, the non-profit Global Association of Managers and Executives (GAME). After previous issues with school leadership in Nevada, ownership decided to start with a new leadership team and move operations to California.

California was chosen as the new home location for the university due to the state's many options for universities to operate. Since Morrison moved their administration and operations to California, the university has been able to operate legally under California Education Code 94874(b).

The California Legislature states that:

" An institution only offering educational programs to members of a bona fide trade, business, professional, or fraternal organization that is separate and distinct from the institution and that sponsors the educational programs. An institution that sponsors an educational program directly or through an affiliated division or corporate entity of the institution and that requires student membership for purposes of those educational programs does not qualify under this exemption."

Because Morrison University is sponsored by GAME, a separate non-profit, professional organization, the school complies with the statute. Furthermore, another section of the California Education Code 94874.7 states:

"The bureau shall establish, by regulation, a process pursuant to which an institution that is exempt from this chapter may request, and obtain, from the bureau verification that the institution is exempt. The verification shall be valid for a period of up to two years, as long as the institution maintains full compliance with the requirements of the exemption."

The State of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education does have a voluntary process to attain a letter to verify a school is exempt. However, this is a purely voluntary process and not mandatory. A school must comply with the exemption to legally operate. If a school complies, no further action is necessary, and a school may operate freely within the law of exemption.

American Education Inc.(A.E.), an education consulting firm, was contracted by Morrison University earlier this year to assist the school's ownership. It was essential to ensure the school was in compliance with the statutes. A.E. Inc. verified with the California BPPE that schools could legally operate without an expressed written letter from the government agency. The consulting firm reached out to the two licensing managers at the Bureau and received responses from both. Each response stated that a school, such as Morrison University, can legally operate if they remain in compliance.

Since Morrison University is sponsored by GAME, they will move forward with plans to attain U.S. Department of Education accreditation. Morrison University intends to be the first university that is sponsored by a professional organization that offers U.S Department of education accredited degrees to members of the organization.

President Freddie Brooks had this to say, "We are looking forward to ensuring Morrison University can move forward and serve members of GAME and attract new members with this great educational benefit. We believe our programs will serve students well in helping them reach new levels in their careers and be future business leaders and mentors for GAME members."

Morrison University has stated that its next steps include the possibility of new academic programs, seminars, and networking events hosted by GAME.
