Sister Business, Elemental Health & Wellness Sees a Need for Holistic Primary Care and Fills the Need with New Location and Providers
ALBUQUERQUE, NM / ACCESSWIRE / March 1, 2022 / In 2013, Anne Cannon founded Elemental Health & Wellness to provide holistic and compassionate mental health services to people in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But in the last decade, the patients of Elemental Health & Wellness, and the community at large, made it clear that there was a definite need for more primary care services in the area. That need prompted Cannon and her new co-owner, Maria Trevino-Lucero, to open Elemental Health Primary Care.
Elemental Health Primary Care opened its doors on January 10, 2022, starting with one provider, Heather Drager, PA-C. They have another provider, Laureli Scribner, FNP, joining them in March as well. Trevino-Lucero shared,
"New Mexico is very underserved in all health care, including primary care. You can't get physicians to come to New Mexico and stay in New Mexico. They have to really love what they do and want to be here."
But, Cannon and Trevino-Lucero had the fortune of having physician's assistant Heather Drager contact them about providing primary care services to their mental health care practice. And that's how the idea of the primary care business came to fruition so quickly.
The goal of the primary care clinic is to place patients under the care of providers who will listen to their concerns and treat them as a whole human-addressing issues in both the body and mind. Located in East Albuquerque, the team provides primary care services to all ages. Cannon explained,
"Patients can expect to be treated with compassion. And they can trust that their issues are being addressed by someone who is very knowledgeable and truly cares. We provide a contrast to what we've heard people share over and over about their primary care doctors, which is, ‘They don't listen to me. They're not taking into account what's really going on.'"
Elemental Health Primary Care is certainly meeting a need in the Albuquerque community, and Cannon and Trevino-Lucero are thankful for practitioners that align with their mission.
