HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / January 17, 2022 / Dr. Candice Matthews and the Texas Rainbow PUSH Coalition recently announced the opening of two new Coronavirus testing sites across the state of Texas. Scheduled to open the morning of Tuesday, January 18, each new testing station represents an "emergency call to action" organized by the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, a response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases both across the state and throughout the country.

As the Coalition's Statewide Steering Committee Chair, Dr. Candice Matthews will join colleagues during a January 18 press conference to finalize this announcement. Once complete, each site will begin preparations to provide free COVID-19 testing to individuals in the communities of Houston and Beaumont, Texas.

The first testing site will officially open to the public on Tuesday, January 18, at 9am. This site will offer free COVID testing at the Impact Church of Houston, located at 16310 Chimney Rock in Houston, Texas. The second will open at The Church Of I Am, located at 2204 Blanchette Street in Beaumont, Texas.

Dr. Matthews and the Texas Rainbow PUSH Coalition are opening each site due to the human crisis spurred by the ongoing pandemic, and to take meaningful action to combat its impact and preserve life across local communities. By partnering with local faith-based organizations, the Coalition aims not only to fight back against this devastating disease, but also to heal the deep wounds of fear and mistrust that exist between local underserved populations and the healthcare industry.

To date, the coronavirus epidemic has taken more than 800,000 lives across the country, with many of those in and across the state of Texas. Additionally, of the 1.8 million COVID tests administered in Texas since January 5th, more than 31% have been positive. According to Dr. Matthews and her team, these numbers underline the need to work together and take action as quickly as possible.

Dr. Candice Matthews and Coalition colleagues aim to provide further comments and address questions about the upcoming testing site rollout during the Tuesday morning press conference.
