Monday, 27 December 2021 02:00 PM

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / December 27, 2021 / As the Chairman and CEO of SARA (Sharing America's Resources Abroad), Dr. Alexander Rovt demonstrates his ongoing commitment to philanthropic work. When first contacted by Stephen Szilagyi, the founder of SARA, about the opportunity to help with the work that SARA does, Dr. Rovt said, "I am from Mukachevo in Transcarpathia. I will help you in any way I can. Just ask." Dr. Rovt has continually displayed the spirit of giving and willingness that he conveyed during that first conversation.

SARA (Sharing America's Resources Abroad) is a non-profit organization incorporated in Ohio. It is an ecumenical ministry affiliated with the Heartland Conference of the United Church of Christ. SARA distributes medical supplies, equipment and expertise throughout the world. SARA believes that by helping people to help themselves, and by giving them a boost towards self-sufficiency, the world will become a better place.

Resources to accomplish SARA's mission come from volunteer participation and charitable donations provided by health-care providers, religious organizations, businesses, not-for-profit corporations and concerned individuals. SARA is particularly interested in working with other not-for-profit organizations who are seeking to serve others in the same way.

Dr. Alexander Rovt was elected to be the Co-Chairman and CEO of SARA. He is assisted in Hungary and Ukraine by the Executive Director, The Rev. Dr. David Pandy-Szekeres, also by Dr. George Szilagyi, Dr. Csaba Halmy, Dr. Zsolt Hegedus and Dr. Mihaly Tapolyai. Protestant, Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic clergy facilitate SARA's gift-giving processes. The Rt. Rev. Antal Majnek is the liaison for Roman Catholics in Transcarpathia, Ukraine.

SARA began many years ago when Rev. Stephen Szilagyi was visiting in Hungary and saw a small child who needed surgery to correct scoliosis, curvature of the spine. The procedure was not available in Hungary but was done regularly in the United States. Rev. Szilagyi collected enough money to bring this young girl to the United States to receive the surgery he needed to straighten his back. But many other children needed this operation as well.

Rev. Szilagyi came to realize that the true need was for doctors trained in the United States to travel to Hungary, where they could then perform many surgeries. He arranged for a physician to come to the U.S. for medical training and for the necessary equipment to be sent to his hospital in Ukraine. Today, the procedure to correct scoliosis is being done regularly in Hungary and Ukraine, and dozens of children stand straight and tall because of it.

During its years of charitable work, SARA has sent more than $18 million of medical equipment and supplies to more than 10 countries. During the past few years, dozens of physicians have received additional training in the United States through SARA. Through his financial assistance and guidance, Dr. Alexander Rovt has helped to continue the work that Rev. Szilagyi began.
