The story of Staiy begins in Berlin, where Alessandro Nora, Adrian Leue, and Chiara Latini moved for their final year of university, having already met two years prior soon in London after starting their degree at ESCP, an international university. Their backgrounds were highly complementary, featuring a mix of experience in consulting, finance, startups, and fashion, so their entrepreneurial minds quickly began working in sync. Berlin, already renowned as a city of trends with a real culture of progressive innovation, was a perfect environment for the trio to reflect upon the way in which environmentally and socially conscious principles could permeate the world of retail.

Fashion was the obvious target. On a grand scale, it was already known as the second-largest polluting industry in the world, currently accounting for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions - and predicted to account for 25% of the global carbon budget by 2050. The human factor was also important, as fashion's reputation for poor working conditions, especially in the case of fast fashion, is no secret.

After speaking to consumers, they found that many shared their concerns, and decided to build a solution focusing on transparency, awareness, and accessibility.
