Leading Glioblastoma Nonprofit Raises Funds to Transform the Standard of Care for Aggressive Cancer

DURHAM, NC / ACCESSWIRE / October 27, 2021 / The Glioblastoma Foundation is proud to be an Official Charity Partner for the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon, to be held on November 7, 2021. This is the third year the nonprofit organization will serve as an official charity partner. Runners can participate in person or virtually by joining the Glioblastoma Foundation 2021 Los Angeles Marathon Team.

The mission of the Glioblastoma Foundation is to raise awareness and galvanize the standard of care for this aggressive form of primary malignant brain tumor. The Glioblastoma Foundation funds research to support innovative therapies and improve treatments in order to transform glioblastoma from a terminal to a treatable chronic condition.

There are several ways runners can participate in the 36th annual 2021 Los Angeles Marathon as part of the Glioblastoma Foundation Team:

  • Run the Los Angeles Marathon - Conquer the new 26.2-mile course, which begins at Dodger Stadium and will finish on Ocean Avenue alongside the Pacific Ocean on Sunday, November 7.
  • Run the LA Big 5K - Runners who want to participate but don't feel ready to tackle a full marathon have the option of running a 5K race on Saturday, November 6.
  • Run Virtually - Runners can compete from their hometowns and share their progress on social media with the hashtag #runforgbm2021LAMarathon.

To take part in the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon as a member of the Glioblastoma Foundation Team, runners can register on the website, set up a personal fundraising page to share with family and friends, and follow the fundraising progress of the entire team. Members of the Glioblastoma Foundation team will receive training and fundraising tips and official Glioblastoma Foundation merchandise.

"I'm running the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon virtually for the Glioblastoma Foundation," shared Michelle Barga, who lost her mother-in-law to glioblastoma. "I want to support the Glioblastoma Foundation in transforming glioblastoma therapy. There really aren't a lot of treatment options right now, and the more people who know about the Glioblastoma Foundation, the greater the impact."

For 2021, the Glioblastoma Foundation has set the ambitious goal of raising $50,000 to fund life-saving research.

"The Glioblastoma Foundation to be named as an Official Charity Partner of the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon," said Gita Kwatra, PharmD and Chief Executive Officer of the Glioblastoma Foundation. "The Los Angeles Marathon provides a powerful platform for us to raise public awareness and funds to support clinical trials for the development of new drugs and other therapies for glioblastoma."
