KUNMING, CHINA / ACCESSWIRE / October 21, 2021 / This October the Part one of the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-15) took place in Kunming, China, attracting 2918 on-site and 2478 online participants. The primary goal was set on the adoption of an effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework at the resumption of the meeting in spring 2022.

World leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Egypt President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron, President Carlos Alvarado Quesada of Costa Rica, Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea, HRH The Prince of Wales, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres participated in the conference.

The UN Biodiversity Conference was opened by Chinese President Xi Jinping announcing the 1.5 billion yuan (about $233 million) Kunming Biodiversity Fund. A High-Level Segment of the Meeting adopted the Kunming Declaration, which commits countries to negotiate an effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework that will be agreed on in 2022. With significant monetary help allocated by the represented governments, protecting and restoring biodiversity remains one of the principal priorities of the United Nations.
