BLK is a black-owned and student-run nonprofit that focuses on educating its members by exposing them to the field of active investment management.

The nonprofit strives to recruit top talent from students across its participating colleges and prepares them for a career in the financial services industry through mentorship, its extensive, six-month education program, and real-time active management of its long/short equity portfolio.

In an industry that has high underrepresentation of black professionals, BLK is a program that uplifts and empowers black students to step out of their comfort zones, build their networks, and get their feet in the doors of reputable finance institutions including Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and more. BLK believes the future of finance is black.

For Southern Methodist University (SMU) student and BLK President Rachel Giadolor, this organization became a space where young, black, and brilliant talent-like herself-could thrive.

"I feel like I've truly grown so much. I came into SMU at 16 not having much confidence and feeling like I didn't belong in this space. I thank BLK because it is a space with many intelligent and talented, black individuals. It was very cultivating for me and made me feel more comfortable in my blackness."

Giadolor is currently pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Operations Research Engineering Management with a minor in Environmental Anthropology, and Master's in Sustainability and Development.

The youngest of 5 siblings, Giadolor saw her brothers and sisters attending prestigious schools and pursuing excellence in their careers. After her older brother told her about BLK, knowing she had a slight interest in finance, she entered the program as an analyst for the nonprofit's education program. However, she soon realized that finance wasn't her cup of tea.

She learned that leadership was her true passion, and her strong connection to BLK inspired her to assume a role as Chief Operating Officer. As COO, she facilitated communications and improved internal metrics on behalf of BLK. After a year of serving in this role, she became president-positioning her as the youngest president in BLK history at just 18 years old.

As the current president of BLK, Rachel Giadolor plans to leverage both her Bachelor's and Master's education to create frameworks and practices that will build a sustainable foundation for BLK's future as a safe, educational space for black talent to excel and change the face of the finance industry.
