Dean started out in wealth management as an investment advisor for the brokerage arm of the Bank of Nova Scotia. He credits his interest in the industry to his father, who took him on a trip when he was 12 years old to see the Commodities Futures Markets in Chicago and the New York Stock Exchange. From the moment he first saw the "organized chaos" of the trading pits Dean explains he was fascinated by the markets and how they worked. He credits that trip as the start of his career. After 25 years working for several of the country's largest brokerage firms, Dean and his long time business partner, Mike, started Kimball Creek Partners, naming it after Kimball Creek, the last tributary to flow into the Snoqualmie River above Snoqualmie Falls in Western Washington.
