Tai Sunnanon, an Elected Official in California, Promoted to 1st Lieutenant in U.S. Air Force

The Southern California resident and military man is humbled to receive such a recognition from the Air Force, coming, as it does, on the heels of other recent auspicious honors.

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 9, 2021 / Tai Sunnanon was promoted to First Lieutenant with the United States Air Force on June 2, 2021. On the same day, he was also unanimously voted to join the Executive Board of the Veteran's Caucus of the California Democratic Party, a position he received as an elected Delegate to the California Democratic Party in February 2021. Additionally, Lt. Sunnanon recently received the prestigious Company Grade Officers Award with the Air Force for his accomplishments as an officer, including assisting with the Covid vaccine rollout across Southern California.

In response to the many accolades, Lt. Sunnanon said, “I'm extremely proud to be in the U.S. Air Force and wear the uniform. I work with a great team with a great mission. The ability to serve and protect is a tremendous honor, and not one I take lightly.”

Lt. Sunnanon joined the United States Air Force as one of the oldest American citizens to commission as an officer. He is a 3rd generation military officer, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers and great grandfathers. On his mother's side, his grandfather and great grandfather were Colonels in the Ecuadorian Air Force, while on his father's side, his grandfather and great grandfather were Generals in the Thai Army. Asked about how his recent promotion and other honors contribute to his family's long military legacy, Lt. Sunnanon reflects, “The significance of me being an Airman reverberates across my entire family living here and abroad. It doesn't get better than that.”

Lieutenant Tai Sunnanon previously served his country with the United States Peace Corps as a Community Development Specialist in the Republic of Palau. He received two master's degrees from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from UCLA. Lt. Sunnanon speaks seven languages and currently resides in Southern California.
