Dr. Shawn Joseph To Give Keynote Address at an Upcoming Webinar and Virtual Roundtable

GAITHERSBURG, MD / ACCESSWIRE / June 7, 2021 / Dr. Shawn Joseph has accepted an invitation to serve as the keynote speaker in an upcoming webinar regarding the challenges presented by educating marginalized and vulnerable students in 2021, and the effects of the so-called ‘COVID slide.' Dr. Joseph will explore positive solutions for closing learning gaps, moving unfinished learning forward, empowering students and teachers in the current climate, and will address the critical subjects of equity and social justice in education, as well. The webinar and subsequent virtual roundtable, which are both presented by the New Jersey-based educational tech company Achieve 3000, are set to take place on June 10, 2021, beginning at 10 AM ET.

Dr. Shawn Joseph is a widely-acknowledged expert in the field of education, having previously been an English teacher, reading specialist, school administrator, central office administrator, and superintendent in both Delaware (Seaford School District) and Tennessee (Metro Nashville Public Schools). He served on the faculty of Fordham University in the Department of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy during the 2019-2020 school year and is currently a Co-Director of the AASA/Howard Urban Superintendent Academy, as well as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy at Howard University.

In anticipation of his keynote address at the webinar, Dr. Shawn Joseph has issued a brief statement on the state of education in Maryland, saying, 'As we move into the upcoming school year, school districts must work with deliberate urgency and care to support students academically and emotionally. Now more than ever, true partnerships between parents, students, and schools are needed.'

Following Dr. Joseph's keynote address, there will be an interactive panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Debi Crimmins, Senior Vice-President of Customer Advocacy at Achieve 3000. The panel will include Nancy Czarnecki, ELA Supervisor, Howard County; Sonja Bloetner, ESL/Bilingual Director, Montgomery County; and Georgina Aye, Academic Content Specialist-Literacy, Baltimore City Public Schools, and will examine equity, access, and acceleration pathways for Maryland's most vulnerable students.

Dr. Shawn Joseph is the principal of the acclaimed education and equity consulting firm Joseph and Associates. His contributions to the education sector have earned him numerous awards and accolades, including the Met-Life Middle School Principal of the Year for the State of Maryland, the American Educational Research Association's Outstanding Dissertation Award in the area of Educational Leadership, and the Ambassador Andrew Young Leadership Award.
