DeBio Network Partners with KILT Protocol To Embed Credentials into Anonymous-First Platform Used By Genetics Labs

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE and BERLIN, GERMANY / ACCESSWIRE / May 6, 2021 / DeBio Network and KILT Protocol today announced a collaboration to incorporate KILT Credentials into Debio's anonymous-first platform for medical and bioinformatics data. KILT would serve as the underlying accreditation infrastructure, enabling labs and biomedical facilities to embed credentials on medical test results, genome sequences and interlab collaborations.

DeBio Network, previously known as Degenics, is building a decentralized platform that will provide synergy between medical and bioinformatics organizations while guaranteeing user anonymity and sovereignty throughout the biomedical data pipeline. The platform is powered by blockchain technology, with an added focus on privacy computing RnD to maximize user and data privacy.

"Debio is designed to prevent genetic data misuse, privacy and security violations, and the practice of selling genetic data without consent. We are implementing transformative technologies - Substrate's blockchain framework, KILT's identity protocol and IPFS's decentralized storage - to fulfill this mission," said Pandu Sastrowardoyo, initiator of DeBio Network.

After building its prototype on Ethereum, DeBio shifted to Substrate to benefit from its seamless integration with Polkadot, a scalable, interoperable protocol. DeBio aims to launch a Polkadot parachain later this year and intends to partner with multiple Polkadot ecosystem projects including KILT.

KILT is a blockchain protocol that enables innovative, industry-agnostic business models around identity. KILT intends to provide DeBio with a mechanism for issuing revocable, verifiable credentials that ensure privacy and data security. Specifically:

  • KILT would be used for issuing credentials to the laboratories performing the analysis
  • DeBio would base the credentials of the genome analysis (via a link to IPFS stored report) on KILT
  • KILT would provide DeBio Network with attestations of lab accreditations
  • DeBio would base the identities of the "genome owners" on KILT including the payment flow between them and the labs. The goal is to ensure anonymity for the genome owners and give them full control over their data.
  • Delegation trees would enable bigger labs to lend their trust to small labs or university labs, providing them a new business opportunity via the Token Curated Attestor (TCA) model.

Storage requirements are also a critical element for DeBio's platform, as some genome sequencing files can reach more than a gigabyte in size. DeBio utilizes IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), a protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system, in order to meet its storage and performance needs. At the leading blockchain conference ETHDenver in February 2021, DeBio / Degenics was named Winner, Best IPFS Use for Identity, and was also a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Winner for its fully anonymous home DNA testing marketplace.
