SARASOTA, FL / ACCESSWIRE / March 18, 2021 / The entire world was turned upside down in 2020 as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Americans were asked to do something that they just have never had to do before, and that is to stay away from each other. The isolation, along with other challenges like food insecurity and other stressors has caused many people to live in a constant state of fight or flight. Entrepreneur Shawn Stumpf Sarasota says that even in times of trouble and instability people still need to find a way to escape. The avid fisherman says that fishing can not just change a person's mood, but the relaxing sport can have a positive impact on their mental health.

One of the things Shawn Stumpf Sarasota credits for his success is his ability to focus and compartmentalize things. "Learning to separate things out, when I need to, so I can focus on whatever project I am dealing with at the time has been an invaluable skill set for me. Fishing has definitely afforded me the opportunity to learn how to focus. I have found that when I am concentrating on reeling in fish, my mind is cleared of other thoughts, and it is incredibly relaxing.", Shawn Stumpf Sarasota said.

The National Institutes of Health has cited a number of studies and books that focus on the restorative benefits that fishing provides people. "I read about one study conducted by a professor at Exeter University that really made me stand up and pay attention. The study showed that people who spent at least two hours a week in natural environments experienced better psychological well-being and better overall health than people who didn't. I can attest that being around water, and soaking in the surrounding nature around me has been both relaxing and healing.", Shawn Stumpf Sarasota said.

A 2019 study published in the Journal Health & Place found that just being around water, whether a person is under it, near it, or in it, for any length of time can boost well-being, increase their level of happiness, and lower anxiety and stress levels. "There are so many reasons why I find fishing to be so cathartic and healing. When I am out there on the water, I feel a certain sense of freedom. Everything around me is gone except for the water and the organisms in it. There is just no better way to recharge and recenter than soaking up the sun while getting a nice dose of vitamin D to give me the outlook and the energy need to face any challenge coming my way.", Shawn Stumpf Sarasota said.
