ANOKA, MN / ACCESSWIRE / January 20, 2021 / A respected City Council member in Anoka, Minnesota and an avid volunteer in his community, Erik Skogquist, was newly featured in an online interview with IdeaMensch, "an interview platform for entrepreneurs, makers, and doers." The purpose of IdeaMensch is to encourage and promote change-makers by sharing their stories and inspiring others.
After discussing his typical day, IdeaMensch asks Erik how he brings his ideas to life. While some of his ideas are self-generated, speaking to valued members of the public fuels some concepts. To determine the viability of a proposal, Erik must evaluate if the end goal will achieve the community's objectives as a whole.
"I reflect on whether the idea has merit and whether I need to talk to people and get different perspectives because I know my thoughts represent only one point of view. If something is going to be successful, it's going to need to have appeal to a variety of different people," explains Erik.
In business, entrepreneurs create compelling products and services to meet their customers' needs. Similarly, city councilors must find new ways to meet the growing requirements of their community. The moral: if you cannot deliver on those needs, your constituents will stop supporting you.
Throughout his conversation with IdeaMensch, Erik reveals some excellent advice he wishes he received at the beginning of his career.
"It's hard to not have something go the right way, but what I started to see as I got older is that you have to realize that sometimes the timing is off, and you have to approach things differently or wait for certain things to change, and then maybe an idea that didn't work before will work later."
Erik asserts that patience is essential to living a happy and successful life. Having patience means being able to react calmly in the face of frustration or adversity. He believes practicing patience has helped him become more resilient and allowed him to achieve many goals even when met with resistance.
Today, Erik hopes to continue inspiring those around him and initiate meaningful change in Anoka.

Erik Skogquist was born in Anoka, Minnesota, a small town with fewer than 20,000 residents. Living in Anoka for most of his life, he understands the importance of a tight-knit community that looks after one another. While he briefly left home to pursue a Political Science and Urban Studies degree from the University of Minnesota, it wasn't long before he made his way back.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Bjorn, who was elected Mayor of Anoka at the young age of 22, Erik was passionate about getting involved in the local government.
