The Ontario Pharmacist Association is Canada's largest advocacy organization, and advocates on behalf of more than 20,000 pharmacy professionals in Ontario. The acclaimed organization leverages the unique experience of Ontario's pharmacy professionals, so they can practice to their fullest potential, and ultimately improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system and their patients.

"I am honored and grateful to be selected to the Ontario Pharmacist Association's Pharmacists' Practice Committee," commented Andrew Hanna, who practices at Cotton Mill Pharmacy in Cornwall, Ontario. "I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to provide education and advice to enhance the pivotal role that pharmacists and pharmacies play on the community health landscape now, and into the future."

Members of the Ontario Pharmacist Association's Pharmacists' Practice Committee provide valuable insights and strategic recommendations pertaining to the quality of pharmacy practice and service throughout the province, while focusing on the core fundamentals that drive patient-centered pharmaceutical care. Committee members also develop and review standards of practice, standards, and guidelines for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

In November 2020, Andrew Hanna was named Transitions in Care Working Group Lead for the Champlain Regional Pharmacist Committee (CRPhC): "I believe it is critically important for both members of the healthcare community and for patients alike to embrace that pharmacists are not merely order takers. Rather, pharmacists play an active and crucial role in optimizing treatment plans, and contributing to patient care and the healthcare profession overall. I am proud, energized and inspired to serve the Ontario Pharmacist Association, and my fellow pharmacy professionals across the province, in this advisory and administrative capacity."

Continued Hanna, "I have never been more proud to be a pharmacist than I was in 2020. The way pharmacists and technicians responded to the pandemic is both remarkable and commendable. I am confident that health care providers will continue to receive the recognition that they deserve. While 2021 will bring its challenges, I am hopeful that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine will ensure a positive outcome and further mitigate the spread of the virus. I am honoured to have been appointed to serve as a member of the Pharmacist Practice Committee with the Ontario Pharmacist Association. I will work to ensure that the voices of pharmacists are heard, and their expanded efforts are recognized."
