CBD sales growth has been stunning and rapid growth continues despite a complicated and confused legal scenario. The 2018 Farm Bill passed by Congress and signed by the Executive Branch suggested to many that CBD now has a legal green light but others disagree and the laws remain complicated and confused. Additionally, some states view CBD as allowable by law and others do not. Even as consumers and many CBD business entities remain unsure of the legality of the substance, sales growth continues at an impressive rate. The hard line attitude concerning CBD by a number of jurisdictions stems from the fact that CBD comes from hemp, a relative of the same plant species as marijuana. But hemp does not get people high because it has at best only minuscule levels of THC, the cannabinoid that produces the well-known marijuana buzz. Most CBD products are derived from industrial hemp. The CBD cannabinoid is extracted from the plant using a variety of different methods. Many credit card processing continue to not allow credit card processing for CBD companies. And many banks will not allow transactions for CBD companies. PayPal is similarly restrictive in this product niche. Despite these substantial hurdles the significant expansion of the CBD market continues and now the big national chains increasingly want a piece of the CBD pie. But, they are entering the market only with topical products even though there is no known benefit for topical CBD.

Some examples include Krogers which will have topical CBD in 945 stores in 17 states, Walgreens which will sell CBD creams, patches and sprays in their stores in select states, CVS which will sell CBD creams, sprays, roll-ons, lotions and salves in certain states.
