HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / April 16, 2019 / The Latin America cannabis boom is just getting under way.

In fact, it has the potential to become one of the largest markets in the world.

As the second most populated country in Latin America, Mexico is home to 1.4 million cannabis users, with a market potential of $2 billion, for example.

Even Colombia is on its way to becoming one of the largest global exporters of medical marijuana. "With a potential count more than double Canada's, Colombia's medical marijuana market is quickly gaining recognition as a legitimate force in the global cannabis industry," notes Marijuana Business Daily. In addition, at current pace, Colombia could supply 44% of the global demand for medical cannabis, according to Andres Lopez, director of Colombia's National Drug Fund, as quoted by Medical Marijuana Inc.

As the global story begins to take shape, some of top companies to keep an eye on include MYM Nutraceuticals Inc. (CSE: MYM)(OTCQB: MYMMF),Khiron Life Sciences Corporation (OTC: KHRNF) (TSXV: KHRN), and Blueberries Medical Corp. (CSE: BBM)(OTC: BBRRF).

MYM Nutraceuticals (MYM)(MYMMF)is pleasedto announce it has incorporated "MYM Nutraceuticals Mexico S.A. de C.V."

The company is taking steps to be a first-mover in the industry in Mexico by planning to focus on the importation and distribution of hemp derived CBD products. The expected changes in cannabis legislation will make cannabis products like hemp-derived CBD available on the shelves of general retailers across the nation.

"In keeping with our Strategic Plan previously outlined, we're excited to add another building block by incorporating MYM Mexico and establishing an office in Mexico," said Howard Steinberg, CEO of MYM. "The Mexican government is currently considering significant cannabis reform at a national level. MYM aims to be at the forefront of this movement by positioning the company to be a key player in the importation and distribution of CBD-rich hemp products."

With regards to Khiron Life Sciences Corporation (KHRN)(KHRNF), Canaccord Genuity notes, "the company has a significant number of potential catalysts that should keep share price momentum going. Commercial sales of medical CBD products are expected in the early part of Q2, while a generous commercial THC quote toward mid-year could further validate Khiron's distribution strategy," the analysts noted. "The passing of Mexican medical and recreational cannabis laws (likely in Q2) are also significant potential catalysts."

Blueberries Medical Corp. (BBM) just entered into a letter of intent for a joint venture with Harmony and Life S.A.S., operating as El Manantial medical centers.

Interesting to note, El Manantial is among the fastest growing networks of medical centers in Colombia, currently representing over 7,000 patients at this time. That number is expected to grow to 50,000 over the next three years, and could help position Blueberries for significant growth in an expanding Colombian cannabis product market.

In addition, the company has plans to build two Good Elaboration Practices-certified pharmacies to support the initiative. Blueberries and El Manantial will also develop a treatment-focused medical education program designed to assist physicians in prescribing cannabis-based treatment plans to patients.

"Our joint venture with El Manantial provides an outstanding opportunity for Blueberries to develop medical products and acquire patients in the Colombian market", stated CEO Christian Toro. “El Manantial is a respected leader in Colombia, and their focus on equitable access to medicine and patient care aligns with our goal of providing treatment to a broad spectrum of patients. The Joint Venture emphasizes communication with prescribing doctors and education of both doctors and patients which is expected to ensure that Blueberries is developing treatments that the medical community needs.”
