ReShape Lifesciences Expands International Business in the Middle East

(NASDAQ: RSLS), a developer of minimally invasive medical devices to treat obesity and metabolic diseases, today announced that the Company is further expanding their ReShape Balloon business in the Middle East via several recent developments:

  • In January 2019, Dr. Haya Ahmed Khalfan Isa Khalfan, Consultant General Surgeon at BDF Military Hospital in Bahrain will be trained at a facility in the United States on using the ReShape Balloon. Dr. Khalfan will be the first surgeon in Bahrain to be trained on the ReShape Balloon.
  • ReShape Lifesciences recently received a large order for ReShape Balloons from the Company’s distributor in Saudi Arabia, matching their largest previous order.
  • More than 20 reputable centers and hospitals in the Middle East are now ReShape Balloon customers

According to Renew Bariatrics, as much as 75% of the population in the Middle East Region is overweight or obese, which is over twice the worldwide obesity rate of 30%. Accordingly, the ReShape Balloon has been increasing its presence and share of the Middle East markets, namely in the top Gulf Countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and soon in Bahrain.
