LAS VEGAS, NV / ACCESSWIRE / July 5, 2018 / Wrap Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: WRTC), an innovator of modern policing solutions, today highlighted activities related to the use of its BolaWrap non-lethal remote restraint device in mental health encounters.

''Independent director Michael Parris is leading our outreach to stakeholders in confronting the challenging issue of police engagements with those in mental crisis,'' said, David Norris, President of Wrap Technologies. ''Michael is connecting with the mental health community, government officials, civil rights advocates, law enforcement executives and others to discuss more humane non-lethal responses that protect the public and law enforcement.''

Mr. Parris was appointed as an independent director in November 2017 prior to the closing of the Company's self-underwritten IPO. Since 1996, Mr. Parris has been a partner at PR Partners Inc., a sports management firm, primarily overseeing the SHAQ Brand and other strategic alliances. His role with the SHAQ Brand includes business development, worldwide brand management and marketing, public relations and intellectual property policies for NBA hall of fame player, Shaquille O'Neal.

From 1986 to 1996, Mr. Parris had a successful career in law enforcement with the Newark Police Department in Newark, New Jersey. As a member of the department, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and commanded several specialized units including Homicide, Robbery and Internal Affairs.

''A goal of modern policing is to de-escalate encounters early before they become injurious to subjects or police while also serving and protecting the public,'' said Mr. Parris. ''Police encounters with those with mental illness are extremely challenging and too often escalate with regrettable outcomes. I believe BolaWrap is an important tool to help law enforcement engage with uncooperative subjects many who are in some form of mental crisis.''

''Michael's appointed to the Board of Directors reflected his passion for non-lethal policing focusing on the mentally ill and subjects in crisis,'' added Mr. Norris. ''As a law enforcement veteran and work with the SHAQ brand, Michael has extensive experience with community policing issues. We are pleased he is taking the lead to publicize the BolaWrap more humane non-lethal engagement solution.''
