DryShips, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) shares closed up 12.71 percent on Thursday with about 39 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NASDAQ as well as one of the most active. The stock also hit a new all-time high of $4.75 during intra-day trading. The company had no significant news but shipping has been improving with the economy improving.

FreeSeas Inc. (NASDAQ: FREE) shares closed up 57.62 percent on Thursday with over 16.4 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers in the NASDAQ. FREE was among dry bulkers who rallied on Thursday. Earlier in the month the company amended to effect a reverse stock split of the Company's issued and outstanding common stock at a ratio of one new share for every 5 shares currently outstanding.

Hemp, Inc. (OTC: HEMP) shares closed up 23.33 percent on Thursday with over 29 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers in the OTC market despite the fact that the company had no significant news. Earlier in the month the company did update shareholders on the recent harvest of 108 acres of hemp in Northwest China. The crop has yielded approximately 40,000 kg of seeds and 35,000 kg of raw fiber, according to Hemp, Inc.'s contract partner, the Yasheng Group, which is noted as one of China's largest agricultural producers. There is also a sizeable amount of chaff.

Sprint Corporation (NYSE: S) shares closed up 3.11 percent on Thursday with about 18.3 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks in the NYSE and hit a new 52-week high of $9.97 during intra-day trading. Japanese carrier Softbank, which currently owns Sprint, is also looking to buy T-Mobile from Deutsche Telekom sometime in the first half of 2014, thus merging Sprint and T-Mobile, cutting the number of U.S. mobile carriers to three from four.
