NHTSA data shows motorcyclists were almost 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die per mile traveled. Over the past decade, motorcycle deaths have risen 24% nationally.

Florida's road environment contributes to the elevated risk. The state's partial helmet law allows riders over 21 to ride without a helmet with $10,000 in medical insurance, despite CDC research showing helmets reduce rider fatality risk by 37%. Thirty-five percent of motorcycle operators in fatal crashes nationally had no valid motorcycle license, according to NHTSA.

In Lee County, high-speed arterials including SR-82, Colonial Boulevard, and U.S. 41 carry heavy mixed traffic at sustained speeds, creating conditions that demand heightened awareness from both riders and drivers.
