Award-Winning Author RJ Tolson's Latest Creation Brings Fascinating Story Characters to Life in Illustration Edition of Zephyr The West Wind

On December 21, 2014 Book Parade TV's host, Richard Wills, sat with RJ Tolson, a 21-yr-old CEO and author of the award-winning coming of age, science fiction and fantasy book, Chaos Chronicles Book 1: Zephyr The West Wind, and discussed the making of RJ's fascinating, adventure filled illustration book, Zephyr The West Wind Illustration Book: The Art of the Chaos Chronicles, Volume 1 and dynamic soundtrack, Zephyr The West Wind Original Book Soundtrack.
Q. With the success of Chaos Chronicles Book 1: Zephyr The West Wind, tell us a little about the illustration book and why you decided to create it?
The illustration book has approximately 20-55 pictures of events and characters from Zephyr The West Wind. Although the book itself is very graphic, I wanted to take scenes from the book and see the characters come to life and that's what the illustration book does, brings the characters to life.
Q. With so many illustrations was it difficult to put together, and how long did it take?
It really wasn't that difficult putting it all together. It took about a month and a half. We designed the front cover first then the interior of the book.
Q. What were the steps to describe what you wanted the pictures to look like or portray?
We found pictures online that were similar to what we were looking for in order to give our artist an idea of what I wanted. For instance, if I wanted a certain style for a house, we found similar pictures that complimented the look I wanted to capture.
Q. How did you go about creating the illustrations; did you do any of them?
I had a hand in selecting the illustrations; however, I didn't actually perform the work. We used an in-house illustrator from my publishing company.
Q. Let's switch gears and talk about your CD. What process did you use in creating the CD?
First we came up with the song content, and then we took a character and based the song on that character. From there, we wrote down the music notes and inserted the music into the computer. The final step was to coordinate the music with my record label staff.
Q. Are there any soundtracks that inspired you with this project?
As a matter of fact yes¸ soundtracks from the TV show Avatar, Harry Potter and 2 Steps from Hell.
Q. How did the design process for the CD cover go?
I provided the specifics that I envisioned for the cover, and then my team created the image to make it come to life.
Q. Will there be illustration books and CDs for the rest of the books in the series?
Yes, if possible…I would like it to happen, particularly since the illustration book and CD are resonating with fans of all ages.
