MINNEAPOLIS, MN and WORCESTER, MA / ACCESSWIRE / October 24, 2014 / Healthsense, Inc., the fastest growing provider of aging services technology, announced today its partnership with Fallon Health, which offers one of the country's largest Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Summit ElderCare(R).

Summit ElderCare, a comprehensive medical, insurance and social support program, helps older adults live independently in the community as an alternative to nursing home care. Summit ElderCare, employing Healthsense's eNeighbor remote monitoring technology, will continue to deliver the highest quality of care and enable independent living for the community's most chronically ill and frail elders.

"By 2030 there will be 70 million people in the U.S. over the age of 65, many of whom will have complex health conditions. The health care system is not prepared to provide the physician, nurse and long term care services these people will need. Home based, technology enabled care is a critical component of the solution going forward," said Darcey Schoenebeck, Healthsense Senior Vice President of Managed Care. "Healthsense is on the leading edge of the remote patient monitoring movement, enabling our senior population to age where they want to – in their homes."

The Healthsense eNeighbor platform provides actionable health status information through the collection of sensor data based on Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as sleep quality, movement, eating, and other key wellness indicators. The sensors, placed discreetly throughout an individual's home, establish normal activity levels for each client based on their typical daily patterns. Using Healthsense analytics and software, eNeighbor is able to detect significant behavior deviations, resulting in an alert that is sent to a case manager for appropriate care intervention.

"This exciting technology will add another layer of health and safety monitoring for our participants, and even more peace of mind for their caregivers," said David Wilner, M.D. Vice President and Medical Director at Fallon Health. "Our Summit ElderCare program already offers our participants who have complex care needs the medical and social support that helps them remain living safely and comfortably in their homes. Healthsense adds unobtrusive monitoring that enhances our program. It's a great partnership."

"Fallon is very proud of the high quality of care it delivers to its members and to seniors in particular. Using the Healthsense eNeighbor platform, Fallon will dramatically increase the identification of potentially catastrophic episodes and will allow us to more effectively coordinate care for our members," said Sarika Aggarwal, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Fallon Health.

"We have a growing body of evidence that shows the cost savings and reduction in caregiver stress that result from using technology in the home. We are excited to partner with Fallon Health's PACE program, Summit ElderCare, and fully support their mission of maintaining the dignity and respect of older adults," said Schoenebeck.

Fallon Health expects to begin enrollment for its Summit ElderCare participants in December 2014.
