Nokia Corporation shares saw a pop after the company reported strong third-quarter 2014 financial results. Both the top and bottom line surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Quarterly net profit from continuing operations came in at approximately $1,008.4 million or 25 cents per share. This is compared with $183.1 million or 5 cents in the prior-year quarter.

Celgene Corp reported third-quarter profit which rose 37 percent on a double-digit jump in sales of the company's flagship multiple myeloma drug Revlimid. The U.S. biotechnology company also raised its full-year earnings forecast. Revlimid sales increased 19 percent to $1.3 billion while analysts looked for sales of $1.26 billion.

Shares of General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) slumped on Thursday despite the company posting net income of $1.38 billion.

General Motors nearly doubled its third-quarter profit with the help of big profits from rising SUV and truck sales in North America. The company posted net income of $1.38 billion, or 81 cents a share, compared with $698 million, or 45 cents, a year earlier. Revenue grew 2% to $39.25 billion, which came in above expectations of $38.79 billion.

GT Advanced Technologies Inc. and Apple Inc. have reached an agreement on terms for the wind-down of sapphire materials production in GT's Mesa, Ariz. and Salem, Mass. locations. A spokeswoman for Apple commented, "Apple put a lot of effort into an ambitious new sapphire manufacturing process with GTAT which is not ready for production. We're going to continue evaluating GTAT's progress on larger sapphire boule development, as well as consider other options for the facility. We remain committed to the city and we're going to work with Mesa and Maricopa County to help the GT Advanced employees who will be impacted by this find new jobs."
