WEST BADEN SPRINGS, IN / ACCESSWIRE / October 13, 2014 / The Independent Distributors of Electronics Association (IDEA) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Lia M. Powell as Executive Director. She will transition from her position of Program Director and begin her tenure as Executive Director on October 15, 2014. Powell will succeed Debra N. Eggeman, who is leaving the Association on October 31, 2014.

"This is an exciting time for IDEA as we move into our second decade now under the leadership of Lia Powell," stated Paul Romano, President of the IDEA Board of Trustees. "Lia brings experience, creativity, energy and a lot of new ideas to the Association, and we are very fortunate to have her in the Executive Director role."

Powell joined IDEA in 2008 and has been an integral part of its operations and program development, beginning as Program Administrator and subsequently being promoted to Program Manager and Program Director. During that time, she was responsible for the management of daily program operations and significantly contributed to the development of new programs, products, and improved policy and process, including the development of a comprehensive membership manual and new requirements process; the redesign and compilation of IDEA-STD-1010-B; the expansion and design of the updated IDEA-ICE-3000 Certification Exam; and the development and deployment of the new Qualified Program Participant Company Program. Powell has worked within the non-profit sector for over thirteen years in program management and direction of membership services with U.S. and international organizations.

"I am honored to receive the Board of Trustees' vote of confidence and look forward to the opportunity to lead the Association," noted Powell. "We stand at the precipice of an amazing period of development that will not only strengthen the foundational programs that have supported IDEA in the years since its inception but shall build upon those achievements and foster smart growth while exploring new initiatives. We will move forward with a plan to nurture what sustains us, broaden our reach within the industry, and demonstrate sustained leadership of IDEA and its Members in the implementation of standards, education, certifications, and counterfeit mitigation methods for the benefit of all stakeholders."

Romano continued, "We are certainly thankful for the leadership and contributions of Debra Eggeman during her nearly ten years of service as Executive Director of IDEA, and we wish her well as she moves into her new role. Lia is in an excellent position to step into the role of Executive Director, and her prior experience will serve her well as she helps IDEA realize the many opportunities that are in front of us. I could not be happier for the Association and look forward to collaborating with Lia on a number of upcoming projects."

"They said it could not be done," Debra Eggeman stated. "In the spring of 2003, a small group of forward-thinking industry leaders united to create a solution for all industry stakeholders for responsible procurement in the Open Market, and yet here we are eleven years later standing strong and tall as the best go-to source for proven independent distributors and delivering IDEA tools and education for worldwide use. I have been privileged and honored to be a part of IDEA's amazing leadership and growth. As every smart business person knows, with growth also comes change, and it is with this that I leave IDEA in the very capable hands of its new Executive Director, Lia Powell. I personally selected Lia several years ago to join IDEA, and that decision was one of the very best decisions I have made for IDEA and its future. Please join me in warmly welcoming Lia in this important leadership position. As I move forward in my career, I wish IDEA, its Members, Board of Trustees, and Lia the very best. I know I am leaving IDEA in excellent hands."
