Irving Doctor Recognized on National List
Irving, TX / ACCESSWIRE / October 9, 2014 / Becker's Spine Review, a prestigious trade publication based in Chicago, has selected Dr. Douglas Won for inclusion in its 2014 Spine Surgeons to Know list. Dr. Won is the founder and director of SpineCARE(tm), a nationally acclaimed spine center headquartered in Irving, Texas, and chief medical officer of Star Medical Center, a surgical hospital in Plano.
Dr. Won is one of 230 spine surgeons to be recognized on the 2014 nationwide list. Becker's Spine Review focuses on news, business and legal issues affecting spine surgeons and their practices. With more than 15 years of experience in medicine and more than a decade specializing in back health, Dr. Won is skilled in helping people manage back pain. Approximately 95% of Dr. Won's patients are treated non-surgically, but when surgery is necessary, Dr. Won employs the most non-invasive methods possible. He helped develop endoscopic laser spine surgery and was the first surgeon in Texas to perform it with a 3mm incision - the size of a grain of rice.
Dr. Won is one of the most highly trained spine specialists world-wide, having completed fellowship training in spine surgery at William Beaumont Hospital's Spine Center, as well as fellowship training in cervical spine surgery, microscopic spine surgery and spinal deformity surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency through Washington University SOM/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, received his Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and holds undergraduate degrees from Northwestern University and Harvard University.
In addition, Dr. Won is actively involved in the community, serving as a mentor, a board member of Irving Schools Foundation and a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He holds leadership positions with a number of professional organizations, including a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, distinguished fellow of the American College of Surgeons, board member of the American Board of Surgery and co-founder of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Treasury.
