Fairborn, OH / ACCESSWIRE / October 8, 2014 / Morris Furniture Co., Inc., a top Dayton furniture store, recently hosted its annual vendor appreciation breakfast and was the presenting sponsor for the charity golf outing, Gem City Jam and Hoopla to benefit Dayton Children’s Hospital.

With a record number of participating players, the outing was held at NCR Country Club where the Dayton area guests enjoyed breakfast along with a presentation about the company’s recent growth and future expansion plans prior to playing on the course.

Larry Klaben, President and CEO for the Dayton Ohio furniture store, discussed growth with the upcoming move and expansion of the Beavercreek Ashley Furniture HomeStore that is scheduled to take place in late October. The new location will feature furniture and accessories, as well as an expanded Better Sleep Shop for mattresses.

The Gem City Jam golf outing drew over 230 golfers, representing over 50 company vendors and media partners. Together with vendor partners, local media, TWIGs (Terrific Women in Giving), and other community sponsors, over $134,000 was raised for Dayton Children’s. The proceeds from this event will benefit the Dayton Children's Comprehensive Care Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Funds will help purchase the latest technology and equipment for the hematology and oncology department as well as provide for an endowment that connects patients and families with resources for ongoing care, treatment, education and support groups. The endowment will also fund a child life specialist and social work dedicated to supporting young cancer patients and their families.

As the President and CEO of the home furnishing store in Dayton Ohio noted, Morris Furniture Co., Inc. wishes to thank all its vendor partners for participating in this golf event and supporting Dayton Children’s Hospital and TWIGs. In addition, Klaben said, "since this event began seven years ago, we have continued to have your support, year after year, with helping to raise more than a half million dollars for children with life threatening diseases. Your generosity makes it possible for thousands of children receive the latest treatment and care available in the country."

The day was capped off by an awards program and an inspiring story by 15 year-old, Mariah Cornett, a Dayton Children’s ambassador who shared her story and praised the hematology and oncology staff at Dayton Children’s for their dedication and care during her treatment for anaplastic large cell lymphoma last Spring. In addition, the President of Morris Home Furnishings was made an honorary member of TWIGs for his generosity and support for their cause.
