Vancouver, BC / ACCESSWIRE / August 19, 2014 / Alabama Graphite Corp. (the "Company") (TSX-V:ALP) (OTCQX:ABGPF) (FRANKFURT: 1AG WKN: A1J35M) (ISIN# CA0102931080) is pleased to announce that Dr. Nitin Chopra, Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and an adjunct professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Alabama, has joined the Company's Technical Advisory Council. The council will include members that have specific technical, regulatory or administrative expertise necessary to rapidly advance the Company's flagship Coosa Graphite Project, located in Coosa County, Alabama, USA.

Dr. Chopra's research interests include development of nanoscale heterostructures based on graphene/carbon nanotubes/carbon nanocapsules, their growth mechanisms and reactor design, surface modification/materials chemistry and purification of carbon materials, materials characterization of nanomaterials using microscopic and spectroscopic methods, and applications in biofunctional surfaces, sensors, energy, complex nanoarchitectures, and devices. Dr. Chopra is the recipient of the 2010 Young Leader Professional Development Award of The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS), the 2011 TMS Young Leader International Scholar Award. He was inducted into the 2010 class of Emerging Professionals in the American Society of Metals (ASM) International. He is an honorary fellow of the Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials. Dr. Chopra is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal, "Nanomaterials and Energy" (ICE Publishing, UK). He serves on various technical and programming committees for TMS and ASM International. He additionally served on the American Chemical Society as their Chair of the local Alabama section. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed research articles, including publications in Nature and Science, over 80 conference presentations, and 100 invited talks nationally and internationally. His h-index is 20+ and his work has been cited more than 2400 times. Dr. Chopra is also a recipient of the University of Alabama's 2013 Faculty Fellow in Service Learning Award.

Dr. Chopra earned his undergraduate engineering degree (Materials and Metallurgical Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (India) in 2001, and a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Kentucky (2005). After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Chopra worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kentucky (Department of Chemistry, 2005-2009) where he studied nanostructures and soft biomaterials for their applications in drug delivery, chemical and biological sensors, supercapacitors, and biofuel cells. His research from 2001 led to several breakthroughs and high-impact publications in the area of carbon nanotubes, nanoporous carbon membranes, and shadow lithography method for molecular electronics.

"We are delighted to have an individual of Dr. Chopra's caliber, located right in our "backyard", to join the Company's advisory council" stated Ron S. Roda, President & CEO. "Dr. Chopra's unique vantage point of the carbon industry will be an invaluable asset to the Company and we are looking forward to developing a public/private partnership that could re-establish the graphite/carbon industry in the State of Alabama."

Dr. Chopra stated, "I continue to be impressed by the nature of the Coosa natural flake graphite deposit right in my backyard. For a person accustomed to working with synthetic graphite/carbon materials, I have been amazed by the potential to use natural flake graphite in the next generation of technological advancements ranging from electronics to batteries and surpassing the challenges associated with synthetic graphite/carbon production methods."

About Alabama Graphite:
