SANTA MONICA, CA / ACCESSWIRE / July 17, 2014 / Vision Internet, innovators in online government, today announced that the judges of the Hermes Creative Awards, and the 44th Creativity International Media and Interactive Design Awards have recognized government websites it developed for municipalities in seven states.

Westbrook, Maine, Reno, Nev., Lauderhill, Fla. and Provo, Utah each won an outstanding achievement award in this year’s Hermes Creative Awards competition. Westbrook and Reno each won a coveted Platinum Award, while Lauderhill and Provo won Gold.

In addition to winning Hermes honors, Westbrook won a Silver Award and the cities of Reno and Provo received Honorable Mention in this year’s Creativity International Awards competition. San Angelo, Texas, Tumwater, Wash. and the Township of Franklin, N.J. also were recognized with Honorable Mention certificates.

Hermes Creative Awards judges include several thousand marketing, advertising, public relations, media production, web and freelance professionals from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. What began three decades ago as a way to recognize outstanding achievement in the communication profession is now one of the world’s largest international awards competitions for creative professionals ranging from individual creative communicators to Fortune 500 companies.

Bill Baker, Westbrook assistant city administrator of business and community relations said, “Our goal was to make our City website visually appealing, flexible, interactive and informative. Rotating images on the City’s homepage include shots of kayakers going over Saccarappa Falls, a historic photo of the City and the Westbrook Performing Arts Center at Westbrook Middle School.”

Reno’s website features similar City photos but with an interactive twist; residents take and submit their own photos for a chance to fill the entire backdrop of the website.

“One of the main goals for the website redesign was to encourage citizen engagement,” said Deanna Gescheider, Reno director of communications and community engagement. “We designed this website with citizens in mind. It is our hope that residents will visit our website and become inspired to participate in their neighborhoods, in our greater community and in city government.”

At the core of Vision Internet’s advanced website functionality is visionCMS™, the company’s innovative government content management system, which allows non-technical staff to add, edit and delete website content while providing the management tools necessary to maintain control, consistency and quality.

“Our experience with Vision Internet was unparalleled,” said Westbrook’s Baker. “They shared best practices learned while working with hundreds of other municipal clients. Their process was truly collaborative and strategic. The Vision Internet team worked seamlessly with our web content management committee and gave our customers what they were looking for -- a website that is attractive, informative, interactive and intuitive.”

Art Direction Magazine created the Creativity International Awards in 1970 to recognize great design from around the world. Open to students and professionals, a rotating panel of advertising and design professionals judges the awards.

“To be recognized in this fashion is incredibly gratifying, given the hard work we and our partners at Vision Internet invested in our new website,” said Anthony Wilson, public information officer for the City of San Angelo. “But the even greater reward is seeing how much our citizens and our colleagues love the functionality and aesthetics of the new site. We can’t gush enough about how great Vision is to work with. Now San Angelo has a face on the worldwide web that truly showcases the marvelousness of our community.”
