Misinformation & lack of information related to issues facing Boomers, seniors & their adult children is a key source of stress. The Smart Planning 101 podcast provides expert commentary & guidance on legal, financial & healthcare topics.

Milford, USA / ACCESSWIRE / June 30th, 2014 / In May, elder law attorney Nicole Wipp launched a new podcast, Smart Planning 101, aimed at providing quality information about estate planning, financial planning, and healthcare options on iTunes and other, non-iOs platforms such as Stitcher Radio and SoundCloud.

Since the launch, Wipp observed that the audience for the podcast is similar to people she regularly seen at her law firm: boomers, seniors and adult children of aging parents that are concerned with proper planning techniques to make life easier in the event of a healthcare crisis, disability or death, and those seeking to preserve assets. The difference is that the audience is national in scope, and not just in Michigan, where her law firm is located.

“It is clear that there is a general lack of understanding about how many of these things work, even among highly educated persons,” said Wipp. “There is just so much misinformation.” The problem, she claims, is that the conventional wisdom related to planning issues very often doesn’t work for seniors these days. Longevity and the cost of healthcare are critical factors that are very often disregarded in planning, and yet are crucial to a good outcome not just for the senior, but also for families.

In order to provide the highest quality information to her audience, Wipp interviews national experts on various topics, in addition to providing her own commentary. The topics range from retirement planning, pet planning, and business exit strategies for boomers to wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, Veteran’s benefits for long term care, and advice for adult children of aging parents. She also includes some more personal stories, such as one relayed to her by Birmingham, Michigan business owner and leadership coach Steve Frank about his family’s struggles during his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and treatment.

Although podcasts are rapidly gaining popularity, Wipp knows that many people are still unfamiliar with the format. “Think of a podcast like a radio show, except on demand,” she says. “Podcast episodes are very easy to access and even better, you get to listen to them on your schedule, not the radio station’s.”

While iTunes is the primary location for the podcast, Wipp stresses that they also may be easily listened to on other platforms, including Android devices, or even on your computer. The simplest method, she says, is simply to go to http://www.smartplanning101.com/ and press the “play” button on any episode you’re interested in listening to.

Wipp also cautions that while there is a great deal of quality information within the episodes, they aren’t a substitute for legal advice. “Just like anything else, you should seek legal advice specific to your situation from a qualified attorney that specializes in your area of concern,” she warns.
