Burnaby, BC, Canada / ACCESSWIRE / June 10, 2014 / After his Ophthalmologist told him he was permanently blind in his right eye from macular degeneration and that the disease had started in his other eye, Canadian artist John Crittenden refused to accept the diagnosis and developed his own naturopathic protocol to regain his sight. John is not a doctor. He is a guy who was diagnosed, out of the blue, with wet macular degeneration, the worst kind and the fastest developing. Within three months his sight dropped from 20/50 to 20/400 in his right eye. He was completely blind and told he had to accept the fact that he would never see with that eye again. To make matters worse the disease was starting in his other eye. When he could no longer focus on the canvas he knew it was time to give up his career of 50+ years or get serious about finding a cure.
The day he was diagnosed, his Ophthalmologist offered only one option, an injection of an angiogenesis inhibitor (anti-VEGF), a drug that was supposed to slow the growth of new blood vessels. It didn't. Within three months he was completely blind in that eye. After 22 months of injections, with no visible improvement, John decided to stop the injections and develop his own naturopathic protocol. One month later, after many late night hours of research, he began his protocol.
Within eleven weeks the macular degeneration was reduced and his vision was improved from 20/400 to 20/90, then 20/50 and counting. His Ophthalmologist, Dr. Patrick Ma (who is a professor and current head of the Retina Division at the University of British Columbia), says he has never seen this kind of regeneration before and told John to "keep doing what you're doing, you may change a lot of our minds."
